What really matters..

I've had a chance to travel for work in the last months. Working to project deadlines that mean 10+ hour days and weekend work, dining solo and flying solo. Stressed, tired and alone.

Last week in Melbourne i managed an afternoon off, rented a car and drove out of the city and down to Mornington to visit my Mia and her family. An afternoon off, a nice drive, home cooked meal and spending time with a little someone who just turned one. Less stressed, rested and not alone. It's amazing how some time with family reminds you of what really matters.

What you drink shows your age ?

Over the years i've noticed my choice of drink evolve as i've gotten older. The very first time i was drunk, it was spirits, lots of it and with no concept of mixers we got very drunk very quick. Then came beer and lots of it, still love it. But it's gone from Toohey's and Crowns to Pilsner Urquell and Knappstein Reserve. Then came the wine, hated the red but could handle the white. Now it's all about the red but love a crisp Sav Blanc. More on that in a second. Then came scotch.. It wouldve been about 6 years ago when we were at the old Bridge bar in Circular Quay when we discovered Johnny Blue. $30 a shot. Neat. ouch Now all my friends seem to have a bottle in storage and we drink Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Macallan when out.

The hardest thing about drinking wine is the choosing one! You know what brand beer you prefer, which vodka you mix and what scotch you end your night with. With wine you have too many options. Then when you eventually find what you like, it's never available. A workmate tells you about a bottle, you cant find it. You go to one restaurant find a bottle you like and the next restaurant you like doesnt have it.
But now i think i've found my favourite wine, the Pilsner Urquell, the Belvedere and the Lagavulin. Its the Rockford Basket Press Shiraz. A wine i've read and been told so much about, i finally got to try on my birthday recently. Thanks babe.
